CTCA Preparation

Heart rate control (Target HR less than 65)

Patient less than 90 kg (200 lb)

Administer metoprolol 50 mg PO and monitor vital signs every 15 minutes. If target HR not achieved in 30 minutes and systolic BP greater than 90 mmHg, administer additional dose of metoprolol 50 mg PO

Patient greater than 90 kg (200 lb)

Administer metoprolol 100 mg PO. Monitor vital signs every 15 minutes.

If target HR not achieved after 30 minutes, administer Lorazepam (Ativan) 0.5-1 mg PO/IV PRN anxiety times 1 dose

CTCA Intra-procedure Medication

If target MR unachieved following IV metoprolol, notify physician
